Car Free Day should be held in other districts: Zambry

IPOH: Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir has proposed that the popular Car Free Day initiated by the Ipoh City Council be held in other districts in the state.
"The municipalities and local district councils can look into having the event which is aimed at creating activities for the people," he said after flagging off participants at the seventh Ipoh Car Free Day at Jalan Raja DiHilir here today which was also attended by Ipoh Mayor Datuk Zamri Man and Perak State Secretary Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan.
The Car Free Day held every last Sunday of the month is becoming increasingly popular among the city folks and there has been calls from the public to hold similar event in other districts.
The family-oriented event which started at 7am also saw other activities such as cycling, funwalk, aerobics, health screening besides recycling rubbish bins strategically located for people to throw their rubbish accordingly.
The council also plans to hold a competition on Ipoh Car Free Day.
The Ipoh City Council's initiative is to encourage motorists to leave their vehicles at home and participate in a healthier lifestyle by walking and cycling on weekends, and also to reduce environmental pollution due to smoke emission from vehicles.
