IGP: Four Malaysians freed by Philippine captors now in Sandakan

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pix) said today the four abducted Malaysians freed yesterday by their Philippine captors are now in Sandakan, Sabah, for a medical examination.
The men, Wong Teck Kang, 31, Wong Hung Sing, 34, Wong Teck Chii, 29, and Johny Lau Jung Hien, 21, all from Sibu, Sarawak, were reported to be safe and healthy, he said.
After the medical examination, they would be taken to Kota Kinabalu to have their statements recorded, he told at a press conference after opening the annual general meeting of the Royal Malaysia Police Cooperative here.
The four, who were the crew of a tugboat returning to Sarawak from the Philippines, were abducted in the waters of Pulau Ligitan, Semporna, Sabah, on April 1.
Replying to a question, Khalid said that as far as he knew no ransom was paid for their release. — Bernama
