Man and son perish in Labuan car fire

LABUAN: A man and his son were burnt to death when his Proton Gen 2 car caught fire at Jalan Tanjung Bendera near a kindergarten school, here Friday afternoon.
The cause of the noon incident fire had yet to be confirmed as investigation was still ongoing.
Labuan police chief Supt Adzhar Othman said the 39-year-old-man identified as Yunus Japar and his five-year-old son, Muhamad Darwisy Haiman, were on their way from Jalan Tanjung Bendera to Chi Hwa Kindergarten junction when the car caught fire and exploded with the flames spreading quickly, burning the duo to death.
"According to eye witnesses, the car exploded twice and they saw the victims had attempted to escape out of the car and several witnesses had also tried to rescue the victims but to no avail," he told reporters today.
Adzhar said the bodies had been sent to hospital for post mortem. — Bernama
