Two siblings drown in construction area

    PEKAN: Two siblings who were reported missing on Friday were found drowned in a water-filled hole at a construction site at Dewan Semai Bakti, Chini 5, near here, yesterday evening.
    Pekan District Police chief Supt Amran Sidek said the bodies of Muhamad Sharul Nizam Malik, 9, and his brother, Muhammad Hasni, 6, were found face down in a piling hole 200m from their house at 6.30pm.
    "Their bodies were found 24 hours after they were reported missing from their home at 6pm last Friday," he said here, today.
    He said a search and rescue operation was conducted by a police team aided by Rela, the victims' family and villagers after being informed by their father.
    Their father, Malek Razuan Ali, 50, lodged a police report at Chini police station at 6pm yesterday after they were not found.
    "About half an hour later, the bodies were found by the search and rescue team," he said.
    Based on preliminary investigation and evidence at the scene, the police believed they drowned, but further investigation was going on to find the actual cause.
    The two bodies were buried in a single grave at the Chini 5 Muslim Cemetery at 2 am after post-mortem at the Pekan District Hospital. — Bernama
