Police detain man who kicked woman at Jalan Raja Laut

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for kicking a woman in the back near Jalan Raja Laut in Kuala Lumpur.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Amar Singh said the man was detained in Jinjang at around 11.30pm on Friday.
"An auxiliary policeman on duty at Bank Negara lodged a police report pertaining to the incident.
"The woman was taking a stroll along a road from Bank Negara to Sogo Shopping Complex when a man suddenly approached and kicked her," he said in a statement today.
It is learnt that the incident went viral on social media through a video showing the man suddenly approaching the woman from behind and kicking her in the back before fleeing.
The video which is about 35 seconds, garnered 1.1 million views and 20,000 shares at press time.
"The woman suffered injuries to her left cheek and received treatment at the Pantai Hospital in Bangsar," he added.
Preliminary investigations also revealed that the suspect was previously charged with trespassing into Bank Negara armed with a machete.
The man was involved with similar crime acts near Bank Negara but no victim had come forward to lodge a police report.
The suspect has been remanded and the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
