Penang Football Association signs on prolific goalscorer

GEORGE TOWN: One of the most prolific goalscorers of the I-League (the premier football league in India) has joined the Penang Football Association (PFA) to help the team stay up in the Malaysian Super League (MSL) this season.
Ranti Martins Soleye, 29, passed his medical on Monday and signed the agreement at a ceremony witnessed by PFA president Datuk Nazir Ariff Mushir Ariff.
The Nigerian striker has won the Golden Boot seven times by scoring 214 goals in the I-League and has found the net 32 times in 33 appearances for East Bengal in the last two years.
Strengthening the Penang engine room is South Korean Jeong Seok Mim who can play in attacking and defensive positions along the middle.
The 29-year-old last played for the Jeonnam Dragons in the K League Classic and won the K League Challenge in 2014 with Daejeon Citizen.
Jeong also passed his medical on Monday and signed terms alongside Soleye during the ceremony.
PFA CEO Bojan Hodak said these two players have been identified to strengthen the areas which needed improvement in the team.
He said the process of bringing in another player was ongoing but declined to elaborate much, only confirming the potential signing was to be a Malaysian.
"We believe these two guys can help us," he said in a press conference when Soleye and Jeong were introduced.
Hodak hoped the new signings could help Penang remain in the Malaysian Super League (MSL) as that was the aim for the 2016/ 2017 season as the team now languishes in last place in the 12-team league.
The PFA faces major tests as they travel to Terenganu this Saturday to face off against T-Team followed by home games against MSL powerhouses Selangor, Kedah and Johor Darul Takzim (JDT).
