MONTREAL: Thomas McNamara set up first-half goals by David Villa and Jack Harrison, and Frank Lampard delivered the killing blow in New York City FC's 3-1 Major League Soccer victory over the Montreal Impact on Sunday.
Spain's Villa opened the scoring with his MLS-leading 12th goal in the 35th minute. Right before the first half, in extra time, Harrison made it 2-0 for the visitors, with an intricate crossover dribble followed by a left-footed shot inside the left post.
Montreal were without suspended star midfielder Ignacio Piatti, who was sidelined by MLS for a two-footed tackle from behind against Portland.
Montreal got on the board in the 55th minute on a goal from Harry Shipp, but couldn't produce an equalizer as they suffered their second home defeat of the season.
Lampard slammed the door with goal off a deflected ball in the penalty area in the 85th minute.
