Police arrest two men, seize RM400k worth of syabu

GEORGE TOWN: Police arrested two men and seized drugs believed to be syabu, worth RM400,000, in an operation at Taman Idaman, Simpang Ampat here on Monday.
South Seberang police chief Supt Shafee Abdul Samad said in the operation, at about 4pm, police acting on information, stopped a suspicious looking Mercedes car and on inspection found a small packet of syabu in a cigarette box with the suspects.
On further inspection, they found another 5 transparent plastic bags, containing 1kg of syabu each, wrapped in newspaper stuffed inside a bag pack in the boot of the car, he told a press conference at Penang police contingent headquarters today.
He added the car was confiscated and RM5,000 in cash was also seized during the arrest.
"Both suspects, aged 28 and 34, have been remanded until Aug 8 to facilitate further investigation," he said, adding that the 28-year-old suspect has prior criminal record.
It is learnt that the drugs were meant to be sent to Acheh, Indonesia, for distribution.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 which carries the death penalty on conviction.
