Two construction companies fined for breeding aedes mosquitoes

KUALA LUMPUR: Two construction companies were imposed with hefty fines by the Magistrate's Court here today for breeding aedes mosquitoes.
BE Construction Sdn Bhd was fined RM6,500 in default three months in jail by magistrate Zuhair Rosli after its owner or director pleaded guilty to breeding Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus larvae at the company's premises at Seksyen 54, Jalan Pudu here, at 1.20pm on Dec 8, last year.
Pasukhas Construction represented by its owner or director was fined RM4,500 in default three months imprisonment after pleading guilty to breeding Aedes albopictus larvae at its premises at Jalan Klang Lama here, at 10.20am on Dec 8, 2015.
The companies were charged under Section 13(1) read with Section 13(2) of the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975 and punishable under Section 23(a) of the same Act, which carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 or imprisonment of not more than two years or both, on conviction.
Prosecuting officer Nordayana Musa conducted the two cases while the two companies did not engage any lawyer. — Bernama
