Youth dies, charge of dangerous driving withdrawn

KUALA LUMPUR: The prosecution today withdrew the charge against a young motorcyclist after being informed by his mother that the youth died early this month.
Muhammad Azrul Mat Ali, who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving charge on July 25, was scheduled for sentencing today.
"Since he was killed in an accident on Aug 2, the prosecution would like to withdraw the charge," traffic prosecuting officer Insp Hashimah Hashim said before Magistrate Noorul Fhaiez Mohd Nayan.
The youth pleaded guilty to a charge of driving dangerously by performing wheelie acts on his motorcycle in Jalan Raja Laut here, at around 1.45am on July 24.
The charge under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 provides a maximum jail term of five year and fine of up to RM15,000, as well as revocation of driving licence, upon conviction.
At the same court, a housewife Chan Yoke Ching, 48, was fined RM2,800 in default three months' jail for driving under the influence of alcohol in Jalan Loke Yew here at 4am on Aug 26.
A breath test done by the policeman who stopped the woman's car revealed that she had 149mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, far surpassing the legal limit of 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.
She was charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
