KOTA TINGGI: The government is confident of fulfilling the Barisan Nasional (BN) manifesto of building 1 million affordable houses (RMM) by 2018 said Deputy Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique.
Halimah said only 23.3% or 268,018 units need to be built to complete the target because 76.7% or 883,412 units had already been completed as of Sept 30.
From the completed total, 500,000 units were built by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB); 150,000 units by state governments and the rest by the ministry and private developers based on the target group.
"The BN government's commitment to build 1 million affordable houses will be completed to cater for the various income groups," said Halimah when opening a Rumah Contoh Rumah Mesra Rakyat 1Malaysia (RMR1M) programme by SPNB at Felda Air Tawar 3, Kota Tinggi here yesterday.
She said state governments must ensure that more houses priced below RM300,000 are built to enable those earning below RM2,500 to own houses. — Bernama
