Three years jail for human traffickers (Updated)

JOHOR BARU: Two Indonesians were sentenced to 10 years' jail and a local to three years' jail by a High Court here for human trafficking.
The Indonesians — Muhamma Tahir Bahtiar, 40, and Hardi Banggulung, 35 — were charged with smuggling in 17 Indonesians in an express bus at Kulai Toll, south bound of North-South highway at 10.55am on July 3, 2015.
They were said to have committed the offence under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act 2007.
Judge Datuk Sofian Abd Razak said, it was a classified Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 offence and its serious.
He said illegal immigrants remained an unsolved problem for many years and human trafficking trials are heard now in High Court, thus showing the seriousness of the government in tackling the problem.
He said human trafficking is a serious crime and it tarnishes the image of the country.
The third accused, a Malaysian driver, Syukur Mail, 55, was charged with carrying the illegals on the same date and time.
He was found guilty under Section 26J of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act 2007.
All imprisonment started from the date of arrested, July 3, 2015.
Syukur Mail was represented by lawyer Shaik Saleem S. M. Daud , while Tahir and Hardi were represented by lawyer Noor-Aquekah Hambali.
