Robber arrested within 24 hours

NIBONG TEBAL: A robber who robbed a convenience shop of cash and cigarettes at Bandar Tasek Mutiara was arrested within 24 hours he commited the crime.

The incident happened at 4.20am on Tuesday when he walked into the shop, whipped out a knife and ordered the staff to hand over all the money in the cash register and a few packets of cigarettes before fleeing in a car.

Following a police report that was lodged, South Seberang Perai district police Supt Abdul Shafee Abdul Ahmad said they managed to arrest the suspect, a mechanic about 2am at a shop in Lorong Permatang Tinggi Indah today.

Police also seized two knives and a pair of gloves which investigators believed were used for robbery.

They also recovered from him several items including a gold-coloured necklace, a mobile phone and a motorcycle.

Abdul Shafee said the suspect was from Arau, Perlis and was also tested positive for methamphetamine.
The case is being investigated for robbery and armed robbery under the Penal Code.

In a separate incident, a 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed when his machine collided with a lorry early Tuesday morning.

Factory worker Mohamad Faizee Shaddin died on the spot in the 7.10am incident at the exit of the Sungai Bakap R&R stop.

The body has been sent to the Sungai Bakap Hospital for post mortem while police are reviewing close-circuit television (CCTV) footage to track the lorry involved.
