SHAH ALAM: The creator of the controversial Facebook Group known as “Thaipusam spraying group” that warned women to dress appropriately during the Thaipusam celebrations in Batu Caves or face being spray painted, has been arrested by the police.
Selangor Police chief Datuk Seri Abdul Samah Mat said that the suspect, 29, was arrested from Seberang Jaya at 9.20pm Thursday.
“We have applied to remand the suspect to help with investigations,” he told the media at a press conference here today.
The page courted controversy earlier this month when it warned in its posting: "Advance warning to Hindu female patrons coming to Thaipusam festival, beware of being sprayed with aerosol paint if found inappropriately dressed ...”
Postings by the Facebook group which had pictures showing the backs of women wearing designer saree blouses have since gone viral and was criticised by netizens.
