PETALING JAYA: Umno information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa (pix) will return to the country on Thursday from his overseas duties following his suspension as Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) and Pelaburan Mara Bhd (PMB) chairman.
In a Facebook posting today, the Ketereh MP confirmed he had received notification of his suspension from Mara council members Datuk Ibrahim Ahmad and Datuk Dr Yusof Yaacob.
"I received phone calls from both of them on the emergency meeting involving the Mara council with the approval of Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
"I was informed that during the meeting, chaired by Yusof it was decided that I be suspended immediately from my duties as Mara and PNB chairman," he said.
Currently in New Zealand on official business on behalf of Mara, Annuar said following the completion of a meeting between Mara's Yayasan Saad college and Otago University's Queenstown Recreational College, he will be cancelling a scheduled meeting with the vice-chancellor of Auckland University following the latest developments.
"I was unaware of the emergency meeting and I have not received any information over the issue (related to the suspension). I have also not been asked to provide any explanation by anyone including Mara council members or the minister himself," he said.
Annuar further stated that he had intended to raise related issues during the Mara council meeting which was scheduled to be held on Feb 14.
"However since the minister has consented to the special meeting being held earlier and without my attendance, I will accept the decision openly.
"God willing, I will be releasing a statement regarding this matter next week," he added.
His response came after the decision was made during an emergency meeting held at the Mara headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, this morning.
The meeting also decided that Yusof would assume all positions held by Annuar.
