Labourer detained for illegal possession of heroin near Taiping

IPOH: Police detained a labourer for allegedly possessing 1.404kg of heroin worth about RM35,000 at a roadside in Simpang, Taiping last Tuesday.
Perak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) head ACP V. R. Ravi Chandran said the suspect, aged 38, was picked up by a police team from the state NCID and Taiping district police headquarters at 11pm.
"Checks on the suspect led to the discovery of a plastic packet containing the drug. We have also seized a Honda EX5 motorcycle belonging to the suspect," he told a press conference at the Perak Police Contingent headquarters, here today.
Ravi said the heroin was meant for supply to about 930 addicts around Taiping.
The man, who tested positive for methamphetamine, had eight criminal records for drug-related offences, he added.
Ravi also said the suspect was being remanded for seven days beginning yesterday to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. — Bernama
