KUALA LUMPUR: Following an incident where two foreign journalists were said to have trespassed into the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary, police have ramped up security in the area.
Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Mohd Sukri Kaman said police had brought in the Special Task Force On Organised Crime (Stafoc), which is the police specialised operation armed response unit.
In yesterday's incident at about 1.40am police summoned a cameraman from the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) due to his suspicious behaviour together with a female colleague.
However, while the man the cameraman responded his colleague bolted.
"Initially, we received a police report at 9.56pm on Monday from hospital personnel about a man and woman who were seen hanging around the mortuary.
"Considering the security aspect around the mortuary, we had to deploy Stafoc to monitor the surrounding area," he said.
Mohd Sukri said police identified the duo to be from (KBS), which is from South Korea.
"We have recorded statements from the man while we are still in the midst of tracing the woman," he said.
It is learnt that, a KBS spokesman said the cameraman was detained after he was found without an identification document and passport.
Police then released him half an hour later after the media representatives brought and showed them his documents.
The case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass.
The mortuary has been the hotspot for local and foreign media members since the assassination of Kim Jong-Nam to catch a glimpse of Jong-Nam's eldest son, Kim Han-Sol who was said to have arrived in Malaysia on Monday night.
Jong-Nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, was killed on Feb 13 by two women who splashed chemicals on his face at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) departure hall. He was about to leave for Macau.
