Teacher attempts suicide next to classroom

PUTRAJAYA: A teacher tried to commit suicide by attempting to jump from the balcony next to his fourth floor classroom at a secondary school here today morning.
A spokesperson for the Putrajaya Fire and Rescue Department said the department was alerted to the incident at about 10am.
"The 30-year-old male teacher is believed to have health issues and undergone treatment for.
"He tried to jump from the building during the class session.
"The teacher's colleague, who was at the scene, managed to calm him down and foil his attempt.
"Rescuers were prepared at the fourth floor, as we feared that the teacher would act aggressively," he said.
He said the teacher was brought to a meeting room in the school and received preliminary treatment.
Medical personnel later took him to the Putrajaya Hospital for further assessment.
Putrajaya district police chief ACP Rosly Hassan confirmed the incident and said police had a joint operation with the fire and rescue personnel to save the teacher.
