GEORGE TOWN: Claims foreign investors were no longer interested in Penang were untrue said Lim Guan Eng (pix).

The Chief Minister said the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) figures showed Penang attracted RM41,554million in Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) from 2008 to 2016.

He said this put the state in third place after Johor with RM55,751 million and Sarawak with RM48,371 million.

"If Penang is in trouble, then the other 11 states in Malaysia who have less FDI than Penang, are in greater trouble," he said in a statement today.

Lim was responding to a post on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's blog where it was stated that many foreign investors had left Penang.

Lim said his government was not interested in playing politics on FDI.

He said FDI was too important an economic and livelihood issue for 30 million Malaysians to be weaponised against political opponents.

"The Penang government will continue to collaborate with the Federal government to attract more FDI, especially in the digital or manufacturing industry," he said.
