Abang Johari marks first year in office with digital economic policy implementation

KUCHING: Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg, who marks his first year in office as Sarawak Chief Minister today, said during that period he has managed to implement the state's digital economic policy.
"I hope that in the long run, it will be able to boost the economy of Sarawak to a higher level," he told reporters after opening the triennial delegates' meeting of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Zone 3 branches comprising Serembu, Mambong, Tarat, Tebedu, Kedup and Bukit Semunja here today.
He said following the implementation of the policy, he also succeeded in implementing digital infrastructure and setting up the state financial institution, namely the Development Bank of Sarawak (DBoS).
In addition, he said Yayasan Sarawak also increased its educational financing (scholarship and education loans) to enable more students to further their education in higher education institutions, especially in the fields of cyber and technology.
"We emphasise on the implementation of cyber infrastructure, education, research and human resources development," he said, adding that the government also approved the construction of the Kemena Bridge in Bintulu, Spaoh Bridge and Marudi Bridge.
On agriculture development, the Chief Minister said the Bidayuh areas in the Kuching and Serian Divisions could be developed as food production zones given the fertile land and available infrastructure and port facilities.
"At the same time, many Bidayuh have skills in various fields while their leaders are united,' he said.
Earlier in his speech, Abang Johari said the Bidayuh community had many advantages to emerge as a developed community by 2030 due to its long practised philosophy of cooperation with the government to attain progress.
On the struggles of PBB, Abang Johari who is also PBB president said the state Barisan Nasional party stressed on solidarity since its inception to become stronger today.
"PBB is a dynamic party and dares to make changes in tandem with the times," he added. — Bernama
