Aiming to be crowned music royalty

IT'S A FACT that K-Pop idols are always met with high-pitched screaming from large groups of super fans, whether it's experienced big names like BigBang, or relative newcomers in to the entertainment industry, as evident with The King.
The five-member boy-group, managed by Stallion Entertainment, is led by songwriter/rapper Sejin, and comprises Donghyeok, Seungjae, and Bawool on vocals, and rapper Choi Rang.
With significant fanbases in Japan and Thailand, The King, which first visited in October 2017, as part of South Korean actor Sung Hoon's Korean Opera Night, were on our shores again for a five-day meet and greet with fans.
The boys held showcases at Atria Shopping Gallery, The Mines, Aeon Mall Ipoh Station 18, Berjaya Times Square, and Melawati Mall, KL, as part of The King Get-Together Tour Party in Malaysia 2018
Fans who bought Premier tickets through official organiser Yi Pin Studio had the exclusive chance of meeting their crushes at Bowling Celebrity Aeon Mall Shah Alam, The Kitchen War, and Dine & Karaoke, at KL Seafood Market on May 1.
In a press conference on April 27, at Loudspeaker Setiawalk, Puchong, the fresh-faced Korean boys first introduced themselves in their native Korean before embarking on the common greeting made by most foreign artists: "Apa khabar? Nama saya ...", and then continuing through an interpreter.
In typical K-Pop fashion, the music video breakout single Look Back, is visually bright and colourful, but unless you understand Korean, you probably wouldn't guess that the lyrics sway more on the darker side.
According to the group: "Look Back is about a song that sings about a couple who has just broken up, so they're still in love but during this process, they grow a lot.
"This time we did it with a strong tempo [and] we also included a lot of smooth harmonies," it said about the concept behind the song.
Inspired by other mega Korean groups like BTS and BigBang themselves, The King is hoping to mirror the latter's commercial success as a group, saying with a big grin: "Yes, yes, very much.
Despite meeting the conventional requirements to play more roles in the entertainment industry, hot new group is focusing on music before branching out.
"All of us have different styles, and all of us have actually thought of going into modelling or acting but for now, we'll just work hard [as The King] to achieve that goal."
Yi Pin Studio is also behind the 2018 New Hallyu Asean Music Award where a list of nominees from categories including New Hallyu Rising Star, New Hallyu Best Music, and New Hallyu Most supportive Fanbase will be out in November this year.
Fans will then be able to vote for their idols before the ceremony next January.
