BUTTERWORTH: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim attributed the freedom he enjoyed today to the wisdom of the Malaysian people who wanted to see a change in the country.
The PKR de facto leader said without the wisdom of the multi-racial people, it would be impossible to see a drastic change in the country's administrative landscape.
"I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the people … it is Malaysian people, regardless Malay, Chinese, Indian and other races that shook the nation and give me freedom.
"I will never forget the people and their struggle. This is a lesson for me, to never forget that I'm free because of the people," he said at the Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim Oratory programme at the Seberang Prai Arena here last night.
Also present were Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and other Penang PH leadership line up.
Anwar also reminded all elected PH representatives to give back to the people and to never betray the trust and hope they placed on the PH government.
He said the PH leaders should not get easily offended if criticised and reprimanded by the people and the media, but must instead offer their explanations for every criticism.
"We just won the election, so there are a lot of praises from the media. Once we settled down, the media will have the right to criticise us.
"That is why we have to accept the fact that the media and the people must be given the freedom to give their opinions and to criticise," he said.
Anwar said as an appreciation to the people, he would go on a nationwide tour to personally express his gratitude to them. — Bernama
