PETALING JAYA: A BBC crew member was 15 minutes from death after she was bitten by a spider while filming a drama in a Malaysian jungle.
The Daily Mail of England reported over the weekend that script expert Andrea Bamford nearly succumbed to the deadly bite in an undisclosed location in Malaysia.
The BBC was filming an army drama entitled Our Girl.
The cast were said to be filming in an area with no mobile phone coverage for two weeks. The report didn’t state the day of the near-fatal deadly arachnid bite.
A crew member recognised the symptoms of shock and acted swiftly to take her to hospital where she was given treatment.
“They hooked her up on a drip and said if she was 15 minutes later she would have died,” the Sunday Mirror quoted an unnamed eye witness as saying.
“(Andrea) lost all colour in her face. After a couple of minutes she couldn’t walk.
The medic on set only had antihistamine and paracetamol. Luckily there was a crew member who used to work with the military and he said Andrea was going into shock."
The stars of the show are terrified after the incident, including Keegan. She reportedly threatened to pull out of the filming. However, filming has resumed.
Malaysia has 425 species of spider, many of which can kill with their toxic bites.
