Budget 2018: Cuepacs wants one and a half months' bonus

KUALA LUMPUR: Two new incentives have been proposed by the Congress of Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) for the 2018 budget.
Cuepacs president Datuk Azih Muda said the proposed incentives are for the introduction of a RM300 city allowance a month and rebates for public transport users.
“The introduction of this new allowance is meant for civil servants with an income of RM3,000 below who live in a city.
“With this proposal, we hope it will ease their burden due to the high cost of living.
“This is in addition to our request for a month and a half’s bonus for civil servants instead of the RM500 aid given for the past seven years,” he said in a news conference held at Cuepacs headquarters here today.
He also suggested a rebate for civil servants who use public transport with a discount card.
Cuepacs has also proposed to decrease the Lembaga Pinjaman Perumahan Sektor Awam (LPPSA) home loan interest from 4% to 1%.
LPPSA is a statutory body established under the public sector Home Financing Board Act 2015.
“Annually, there are new batches of 30,000 civil servants who don’t own a home.
“Additionally, 70% of the current workforce who are below 50 years of age, also do not own a home."
Azih said the proposals were submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak in August.
