Damansara and Rawang hit by flash floods (Updated)

PETALING JAYA: Several places in Selangor were hit by flash floods this evening, following a heavy downpour.
A Selangor Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the flash flood in Rawang was due to the overflow of the nearby Sungai Gong. According to him, shoplots and buildings there were also filled with water up to 0.6m high.
"The inlet at the retention pond under construction had to be closed to avoid damage to power cables," he added.
Meanwhile, heavy rains from about 3pm affected the roads along Persiaran Surian in Mutiara Damansara.
"Stretches of the road as long as a 7km distance were affected, which caused heavy traffic congestion at the area," he said.
No one has been reported injured in the flooding.
Pictures of the floods and several vehicles stranded along Persiaran Surian went viral on social media.
Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din, who confirmed the incident, said flood waters eventually receded by about 7pm.
"A total of six vehicles were damaged in the floods," he said, adding that traffic was generally manageable.
In Phase 4 of Taman Rahmat Jaya, Gombak, flood waters rose to 0.6m after Sungai Kuang broke its banks, said a spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department.
He added that six houses were affected after flood waters started to rise at about 6pm.
Meanwhile, an emergency response team has been stationed 24 hours every day to reassure residents of Jalan Saga 28 in Ampang, after rocks tumbled down Taman Bukit Saga's hill side, splashing mud along 10 houses on Jan 23.
A rock measuring about 1m by 1m slid down the hill at 10.45am as a result of construction work at the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Expressway's (SUKE) project site.
Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas) in a statement, said that no injuries, casualties or damaged property were reported but necessary action was taken by Prolintas to immediately monitor the houses and vehicles affected by the spray of mud.
