DAP central leadership still undecided on Teluk Intan candidate

PETALING JAYA: There may be more than meets the eye over talk that DAP's Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming is to challenge Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong in the latter's turf, Teluk Intan, in the 14th general election.
It underscores the undercurrents within Perak DAP.
The existence of factions in Perak DAP is not news. And it is an open secret that a faction led by Nga has long wanted Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran "banished" to Teluk Intan, away from the state's administrative centre.
It is learnt that Kulasegaran has no intention to leave his present seat.
According to a report in Oriental Daily News today, the party is indeed toying with the idea of fielding either Nga or Kulasegaran – both are leaders of high calibre – in Teluk Intan but has not made a final decision.
"Due to a number of factors, the DAP central leadership is still undecided on the Teluk Intan candidate.
"So Nga's rivals in the party may have been responsible for supplying the media with 'insider information' on Nga moving from Taiping to Teluk Intan," a source said, adding that the intention is to precipitate such a move.
If this is indeed the case, it is checkmate for Nga as far as the rival faction is concerned.
Meanwhile, Mah said he is ready to face any opponent if he is chosen to recontest his seat.
He also said he is confident of retaining the seat.
