DBKL seizes 550 units of PPR, Public Housing for breach of conditions

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has seized 550 out of the 45,000 housing units leased under the People's Housing Project (PPR) and Public Housing (PA) for breach of conditions.
Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said that DBKL’s clean-up operation since January was to ensure that leased PPR and PA housing units were not misused by the original tenants.
"The high demand for housing has prompted some original tenants to exploit the situation by leasing their units to third parties. They took advantage of other people's hardship.
"We will not compromise and will revoke their lease agreements immediately. This way, we can give the units to the 80,000 poor on the waiting list,” he told reporters after DBKL's Corruption Free Pledge (CFP) with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), here today.
Earlier, Tengku Adnan and MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad witnessed the signing ceremony and pledge taking led by Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Mhd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz.
Tengku Adnan said similar events would be held in Putrajaya and Labuan so that civil servants practice integrity and are free of corruption when carrying out their duties.
Meanwhile, Dzulkifli said some 223 agencies nationwide have joined the CFP and hopes that more agencies and local authorities would help make the country free of corruption by 2020.
"The MACC emphasises on local authorities so that they can provide transparent services to the people and to avoid abuse of power."
He said the CFP shows that fighting corruption is not just the responsibility of the MACC but be shared with the community, especially those serving in government agencies. — Bernama
