Eight companies pay the price for flouting rules on subsidised cooking oil

LARUT: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry has withdrawn the licences of eight companies licensed to supply subsidised cooking oil for flouting regulations.
Its minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said that among others these companies were located in Seremban, Johor Bahru, Sandakan and Terengganu.
He said stern action had to be taken because these companies were out to make a quick profit by engaging in the illegal sale of subsidised cooking oil.
"The revoking of the licences also involved the seizure of more than 2,000 tonnes of subsidised cooking oil. We will award the licences to other companies in the localities to ensure there are not shortages in the areas concerned," he told reporters here today.
The MP for Larut added that currently there were 270 companies contracted to supply susbsidised cooking oil nationwide and that a special task force was set up four months ago to ensure that they complied with the regulations. — Bernama
