GEORGE TOWN: Ride-hailing service Grab has launched a Tengkiu Fa Cai campaign to honour the efforts of its drivers who have lifted the company to greater heights since its inception in Penang.
As part of the campaign, three drivers have also come forward to share their experience of working with Grab.
Lim Woei Chyuan, 55, who previously held a senior position in Sales & Marketing, spoke of how he had to give up his job after suffering a stroke.
As the sole breadwinner of his family, he decided to apply for a position as a Grab driver last August but feared that he might be rejected, due to his health condition.
Lim's fears were however put to rest, and he officially became a Grab driver last September.
Another driver Cheow Sin Loong, 36, related how he helped a female Grab passenger during the flash floods last November.
Relating the ordeal of the woman in her 20s, he said he had dropped her at Jalan Tengah at about 8pm, with area gradually being submerged with water.
He said he felt uneasy when the woman literally disappearing from sight.
He then started looking for her and realised that she had fallen into a nearby drain.
After assisting her, Cheow even went the extra mile by buying her a hot drink following her ordeal.
"Customer safety must always be prioritised," he stressed.
Grab Non-Klang Valley (GrabCar and GrabTaxi) head Justin Tiew applauded the commitment of outstanding Grab drivers, especially those who sacrificed their time during the Chinese New Year period to be on the streets.
