KUCHING: Khirudin Drahman today assumed duties as the new director of the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department.
Khirudin, who was the director of the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department, takes over from Nor Hisham Mohammad who assumed duties as the director of the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department on Sept 18.
Speaking to reporters, Khirudin said that as Sarawak is a large state, members of the local community will be trained to be the "first line of defence" in handling fires and other disasters.
He said the first line of defence is important as the local community can prevent fires from becoming too big by the time help arrives. — Bernama
