KUALA LUMPUR:The Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will provide 100,000 free Komuter Link cards at all KTM Komuter ticket counters in the Klang Valley starting Monday until July 31.
KTM Komuter services general manager (Services) hair Johari Ishak said through the 100,000 free Komuter Link cards (adults) Wow Promotion! commuters, however, had to add value from RM5 to activate the card before using it on the KTM Komuter service.
He said the provision of the cards was part of the initiative and social corporate responsibility of KTMB to encourage KTM Komuter commuters to switch from ticket payment by cash to cashless.
"This mode of ticket payment is economical and worthwhile because fare discounts up to 20% are given compared to cash payments," he said in a statement here today.
Prior to this, he said, KTMB had introduced several initiatives to attract more commuters to make cashless payments, including the RM2 card from the actual price of RM10 and Raya promotion in which 3,000 free cards were distributed at the KL Sentral Station and Bandar Tasik Selatan Station last month.
The Komuter Link cards were first introduced at all KTM Komuter line stations after the new ticket system, which used tokens and stored value cards, began operations on October 19, last year.
