GEORGE TOWN: The KL 2017 Torch Run in view with the 29th SEA Games and ninth Para Asean Games this year has reached Penang island.
Six swimmers led by Insp. Adni Shaari brought the torch and swam across the 3.5km channel from Pulau Jerejak. They started 6.30am and reached marine police base in Batu Uban at 9am.
Upon reaching the jetty, Adni accompanied by the rest of swimmers handed the torch to marine base commander ACP Rosman Ismail before it was passed to the state-federal development officer Syed Shaari Syed Abdullah.
Syed Shaari then led a group of torch runners to the Youth and Sports Complex in Batu Uban after the run was successfully flagged off by state police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye.
The torch will be carried over to the mainland tomorrow.
It will then be displayed at Sri Mutiara hall in Politeknik Seberang Prai from 1.30pm to 2.30pm on Wednesday before making its way to Perak on Thursday.
The torch run started on May 13 is scheduled to return to Kuala Lumpur on Aug 19 ahead of the SEA Games. — Bernama
