KUALA LUMPUR: A senator today praised the good performance shown by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in discharging its responsibilities in combating corruption as well as helping to raise the image of the country.
Senator Ramli Shariff said the MACC, an agency under the Prime Minister's Department could be dubbed as the unsung hero due to its high commitment and firmness in carrying out investigations.
"We would like to congratulate the MACC. Its hard work has improved the country's image and the public perceptions on corruption also declined.
"They cannot publicise what they are doing. We approve the additional allocation because the MACC personnel can be classified as the unsung heroes," he said when debating the Supplementary Supply Bill (2017) 2018 at the Dewan Negara here today.
The Bill seeking an additional RM7.123 billion was approved by the Dewan Rakyat on Monday by a majority vote after it was debated at the policy stage, which among others, has allocated RM35 million for the MACC.
Ramli opined that the additional allocation for the MACC was not a huge amount compared to the duties and responsibilities borne by the agency personnel.
He also suggested that some new incentives be introduced to MACC personnel due to their heavy workload. — Bernama
