KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia failed to make the five-a-side football final of Kuala Lumpur Asean Para Games after they lost 1-2 to Laos in the last match of the preliminary round at National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.
With the loss, Malaysia does not get to defend the gold medal it won at the 2015 Singapore Asean Para Games and will vie with Vietnam for the bronze medal.
Malaysia looked on course for a win when they opened scoring via Rollen Marakim (3 min) but Laos were undeterred and hit back with goals from Somsak Douangvilay (9,19 min).
Laos will take on Thailand for the gold medal at the same venue on Friday.
Thailand thrashed Vietnam 5-0 in a preliminary round match and thus qualified for the final. — Bernama
