JOHOR BARU: A man was burnt to death when the car he was driving caught fire after ramming the rear of a lorry at Km41.2 of a south-bound lane of the North-South Expressway near Kulai today, said police.
Kulai District Police chief Supt Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said an investigation identified the man as Muhammad Rusdi Yakob, 29, but this could not be confirmed as yet because his identification documents were lost in the fire.
Muhammad Rusdi's wife, Salwa Atasa Arani, 30, who is from Seri Iskandar, Perak, was injured in the accident that occurred at 5.55am on a wet road following rain, he said, adding that their three-year-old daughter was unhurt.
He said the investigation revealed that the Proton Persona car had rammed the rear of a lorry or trailer lorry, based on the collision damage on the car.
"Muhammad Rusdi was trapped in the burning car while Salwa and their daughter, who were seated at the back, were pulled out by other road users," he said in a statement.
Dzulkhairi said Muhammad Rusdi's body was removed from the car by firefighters after the fire was put out and taken to the Temenggung Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital in Kulai.
Salwa and their daughter were also taken to the same hospital for a medical examination, he said. — Bernama
