PAS still in S'gor govt to ensure DAP not up to any mischief: State commissioner

PETALING JAYA: PAS’ continued involvement in the Selangor government is because it wants to help in doing good and to ensure DAP is not up to any mischief, said its new state commissioner.
Sallehen Mukhyi said PAS is now doing what DAP had done previously when it left the then opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat in 2015 but remained in the state cabinet.
“History has proven that when DAP severed ties with Pakatan Rakyat, DAP’s executive councillors (Exco) did not quit their posts.
“When questioned, (DAP secretary-general) Lim Guan Eng had said that DAP needed to continue being in the government so that PAS does not get involved in any misconduct.
“It is with that reason that PAS must continue being in the government and our Excos must continue to serve, so that PAS can do good and DAP won’t do any bad,” he said in a statement today.
Sallehen was responding to Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar’s claim that PAS was being a “dishonourable opportunist” for remaining in the state government despite cutting ties with PKR, which helms the administration.
The PAS Syura Council, on May 11, confirmed the Islamist party's decision to sever ties with PKR, after the party had earlier, on April 30, at its Muktamar passed a motion to end their political cooperation.
Sallehen said Noh must have been the most disappointed individual when PAS and its three Exco members decided to stay in the Selangor government.
“Noh’s statement about PAS Selangor is like ‘spitting in the air’, and reflects his disappointment for failing to break the Selangor government and subsequently draw PAS to link up with Umno.
“He should instead see Umno and Barisan Nasional Selangor themselves as being a coward for condoning the federal government’s weaknesses,” he said.
Sallehen said the difference between PAS and Umno was the strength of the present state government (as compared to when Selangor was under BN), especially in serving the rakyat.
