Perak Sultan opens SMK Bawong in Sungai Siput

SUNGAI SIPUT: The Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah officiated the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bawong in Sungai Siput (U) today.
Also present were Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, Raja Muda Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, Raja Di-Hilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Sultan Idris and Raja Puan Muda Perak Tunku Soraya Sultan Abdul Halim.
Others who were present were Mentri Besar Perak Ahmad Faizal Azumu and wife Dr Nomee Ashikin Mohammed Radzi, Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik, State Secretary Datuk Mohd Gazali Jalal and Perak Education Director Datuk Mat Lazim Idris.
After the opening ceremony, Sultan Nazrin and Tuanku Zara viewed an exhibition of the students' works.
SMK Bawong was built in a six-acre area at cost of RM26.3 million.
SMK Bawong which was named after the Orang Asli settlement began operations on Sept 19, 2016, and has 20 classes with 375 students, 37 teachers and 11 support staff.
The secondary school is the first-day secondary school for the Orang Asli community in the country which has hostel facilities for boys and girls.
The construction project for the school began on Nov 25, 2013, and it is equipped with various facilities like science, computer and language laboratories as well as workshops, and a high internet speed. — Bernama
