KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Ismail Kassim (pix) has pleaded that the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail appoint another candidate other than himself or Bintong assemblyman Datuk Seri Azlan Man as Menteri Besar of Perlis.
The Tambun Tulang assemblyman said any one of the eight other Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen could be appointed to helm the state.
"In order to resolve this crisis, we would like to propose any one of them to be nominated as the Mentri Besar, they have various backgrounds and will have no problem in leading the state, as long as it is not me nor Azlan.
"We are ready to have an audience with His Majesty if summoned to make political correctness for the sake of the people of Perlis," he told reporters here last night.
He said he did not want to be seen as power crazy or a puppet Mentri Besar just because his name was nominated by his own brother, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, who is state BN chairman.
Yesterday, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin expressed sadness over the political situation on the state when none of the nine other BN assemblymen attended the swearing-in ceremony of Azlan as the Menteri Besar.
All of them were absent because they said they disagreed with the appointment of Azlan.
BN won 10 out of 15 State Legislative Assembly seats in the 14th General Election on May 9 to form the state government with a two-thirds majority. — Bernama
