PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan lied to the people about bringing down fuel prices, embattled former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) has said.
In an interview with Sinar Harian, Najib said he is willing to take a bet with anyone that PH's purported election promise was nothing more than a fairy tale to win the hearts of the people.
"I dare to bet that the (promise of) fuel prices decrease to RM1.50 per litre is nothing more than a fairy tale," Najib was quoted by the Malay newspaper as saying.
"But unfortunately our youths, the first time voters, they can't see beyond that (the promise)," Najib was quoted as saying.
"I know that fuel prices cannot go down to RM1.50 (per litre), so don't lie. I know because I was finance minister at the time. I knew the implications if the fuel price was brought down to RM1.50."
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said PH through its manifesto had promised to stabilise the fuel prices and reintroduce fuel subsidies to targeted groups. He didn't say he would bring the price down to RM1.50 per litre.
