KOTA BARU: PAS said today appointed PKR party members are at liberty to remain in the PAS-led Kelantan administration or resign as per their party order.
Its secretary-general, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, said they could continue to hold their posts although the PKR Political Bureau had ordered them to resign.
"As for PAS, we in Kelantan have decided to retain the PKR members in the state government administration. However, if they want to withdraw or resign, it is entirely up to them," he said to reporters at the Kota Baru Court Complex here.
PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said in a statement yesterday that the party wanted all PKR political appointees in the Kelantan government to resign immediately.
PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, when met by reporters at the Kota Darul Naim Complex here, said Kelantan PAS hoped that the PKR appointees would not resign.
Mohd Amar, who is the Kelantan deputy mentri besar, said he hoped that the PKR appointees would remain in their posts to serve the people.
Kelantan PKR chairman Ab Aziz Ab Kadir said he was waiting for the official letter from his party headquarters before taking the next course of action.
Without revealing statistics, Ab Aziz said a number of PKR members had been appointed as penghulu, state assembly supervisors and members of local councils.
Last week, the PAS Syura Council, the party's highest decision-making body, decided to terminate its "tahaluf siyasi" (political cooperation) with PKR citing violation of several conditions by PKR. — Bernama
