Police identify acid attack substance, seeking two suspects

KUALA LUMPUR: The corrosive fluid used in an attack on a Bursa Malaysia corporate surveillance officer opposite the Menara Olympic on Jalan Raja Chulan here on Tuesday is believed to be a acidic agent commonly used for cleaning toilets.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said yesterday that the victim had suffered 30% burns to parts of his face and body as a result of the attack at 6.35pm.
He said investigations showed that two suspects who are believed to be in their 40's were involved in the attack.
He said the motive behind the incident is being investigated and the case is classified as causing grievous hurt.
It is learnt that the man who is warded at a private hospital underwent surgery yesterday for his injuries and is reported to be in stable condition.
The attack is believed to be related to his work and the man had over the past 10 months lodged two reports alleging he was intimidated twice on separate occasions.
Witnesses told police that two men on a Yamaha Y12 motorcycle waylaid the 47-year-old victim who was driving at the time and smashed a window of his car before splashing the corrosive liquid.

On a separate case, Mazlan said on Monday police managed to trace the home of a murder victim whose mutilated body was found packed in two travel bags on the riverbank of Sungai Gombak near Putra World Trade Centre on July 5.
He said the victim's particulars were also obtained and several items related to the case were recovered at the crime scene.
