KUALA LUMPUR: There is an alarming weakness when it comes to the lack of updates on investigations from the personnel, according to Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
He said this after handing over the "Handbook Crime Investigations and Criminal Investigation Instructions" to all state CID chiefs, here today.
Mohamad Fuzi said the wife of the abducted Pastor Raymond Koh has on several occasions complained that she has been kept in the dark over the investigation.
"One of the biggest weaknesses of our police investigations is the lack of update on the investigation from the detectives to the victims. Some public addressed that they were not fully informed about the progress of a particular probe.
"This is quite alarming and we want to improve and address this issue. We will look into this and make sure our men don't repeat the mistake."
He added that the new guidelines would hopefully help make the CID better and help CID personnel follow the accurate rules of practice.
He noted that the overall crime index had gone down by 10.54% in 2017.
