KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak is satisfied with the progress of Kuala Lumpur Sports City (KL Sports City) project, the main venue of the 29th SEA Games (Kuala Lumpur 2017) and the 9th ASEAN Para Games.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the prime minister who inspected National Stadium yesterday stressed that the upgrading of the sports complex would benefit the athletes and spur the development of sports at national level.
“I can conclude that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib is very satisfied with the upgrading work of the sports complex," he told reporters after launching the 100 days count down to Kuala Lumpur 2017 at KL Sentral today.
The upgrading work for Kuala Lumpur 2017 involves the infrastructure at the sports complex in Bukit Jalil such as the National Stadium, the Aquatics Centre and the Axiata Arena, formerly known as Putra Stadium.
The sports facilities at KL Sports City are expected to open in July, one month before the start of Kuala Lumpur 2017, scheduled to be held from Aug 19 to 30 and the Asean Para Games from Sept 17 to 23.
Khairy said the SEA Games sponsorship has reached RM71 million and was confident that the Malaysia SEA Games Organising Committee (Masoc) can meet the RM80 million target. — Bernama
