Protest outside Parliament: Organisers urged to come forward

KUALA LUMPUR: The organisers of a protest held outside Parliament building last Wednesday have been urged to surrender themselves at the Dang Wangi police station for the police to record his/her statement.
Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Shaharuddin Abdullah said the notice for them to appear at the station was handed over to the investigating officer today.
He said the investigating officer went to the Bersih office in Petaling Jaya to serve the notice to the individuals concerned, who included Bersih 2.0 chairman (Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari).
He told this to reporters after the launch of the 1Mosque 1Police programme at Kampung Baru Jamek Mosque here today.
Two days ago, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun was quoted as saying that the police would take stern action against any individuals or quarters who joined the planned protest outside the Parliament building.
On the 1Police 1Mosque programme, Shaharuddin said 36 policemen and officers would be appointed as mosque liaison officers at nine mosques in the Dang Wangi district which included Masjid India, Masjid Bukit Aman, Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru and the National Mosque.
"They will be the facilitator to advise the mosque congregation on any crime that happens at the mosque and its vicinity," he said.
He said the programme was carried out with the collaboration of the Islamic Religious Department and the respective mosque committees. — Bernama
