Search continues for missing Labuan student feared drowned

LABUAN: A search and rescue (SAR) operation to locate a Form Four student of SMK Mutiara, who is feared drowned after he went missing while swimming at the Taman Damai Beach here on Sunday continues today.
Mohd Shahrul Iskandar, aged 16, was said to have been swimming with four other friends at the popular weekend beach when they were hit by a big wave around 4pm.
His four friends, Mohd Aiman Sumardi, Zul Azri Sufri, both 12, Mohd Syafiq,13, and Khairuddin Karim, 14, managed to swim to the shore.
Labuan Fire and Rescue Department director Zainal Madasin said the SAR operation to locate the missing teenager from Kg Sg Labu was still ongoing.
"Since the first day, the SAR team from various parties including the Labuan Liberty Port Management, Department of Youth and Sports, Marine Department and local villagers have been helping the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) amidst rough sea condition," he said to Bernama today.
Zainal said the search has covered more than 23km of shoreline so far. — Bernama
