BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MSPS) have requested feedback from traders, over a policy to ban foreign workers at the work place on June 1.
MPSP president Datuk Maimunah Mohd Sharif said although the new policy would be enforced from June 1, the authority still wants feedback from traders and the public.
She said the public can leave their feedback at MPSP's website, www.mpsp.gov.my, from tomorrow to May 10.
On Wednesday, it was reported that the ban of foreing workers – includinjg those with permanent resident status – covers hawkers at MPSP food complexes, public market, and roadside stalls.
Maimunah added that the workforce for other businesses, including supermarkets and restaurants should consist of at least 30% local workers.
"This is to prevent foreigners from running businesses here," she said during a press conference today.
The new policy also requires businesses to display signboards in Bahasa Malaysia, English, Chinese or Tamil, at their premises.
Those who do not comply with the new rules would have their business licences revoked.
In Seberang Perai, there are a total of 31 markets and 66 MPSP complexes with more than 5,500 traders.
