MALACCA: The situation in the flood-hit areas of Malacca continued to improve, allowing more evacuees to return to their homes.
As at 12.30pm today, the number of evacuees dropped to 134, down from 183 as at 8am in the two districts of Jasin and Alor Gajah, said Malacca Disaster Management Committee Secretariat head Lt Col (PA) Effendy Ali.
He said two relief centres in Alor Gajah – Kampung Pulau JAIM kindergarten and Sekolah Kebangsaan Belimbing Dalam – had closed. The centre at the Kampung Seri Jeram community hall remained open with 13 evacuees.
The number of evacuees in Jasin was 121, accommodated at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tehel (107) and the Seri Mendapat community hall (14), he said in a statement.
"With the fine weather and receding floodwaters, we expect more evacuees to return to their homes this evening," he said. — AFP
