SHAH ALAM: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has called for the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) to refrain from appointing too many politicians to its board of directors.
The Sultan said the board of directors in the state-owned corporation must be balanced with the presence of those from a professional background.
"In my opinion, members of PKNS need to be balanced and must be appointed from among the professionals, so that they can provide views, ideas, advice and guidance in the development and real estate sector," the Sultan said in his speech at the launching of PKNS' new headquarters in Seksyen 14 here.
There are currently three politicians on the board of PKNS. They are Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad, Datuk Teng Chang Khim and Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali serves as chairman of the corporation.
Sultan Sharafuddin also reminded PKNS to return to its initial objective of assisting the low and middle-income Malay group in Selangor.
The ruler said PKNS was founded in 1964 with the aim of helping the Malays own homes in the state.
The Sultan expressed his disappointment at how the "new generation of PKNS" seem to have forgotten the original objective that led to the foundation of the corporation.
"I believe the current administration of PKNS will return to its initial objective to continue the development for the people of Selangor.
"The efforts undertaken by PKNS to provide affordable houses for low-income people will reduce the burden on the rakyat and fulfill their dreams of owning quality homes," he added.
