PATTANI: Thai authorities have identified one of four individuals believed to be involved in Tuesday's bombing of a supermarket in Muang district that left 69 people injured, with three sustaining serious injuries.
Pattani police chief Maj Gen Piyawat Chalermsri said the individual was identified through a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera as 25-year-old Matkoseng Na-Ae.
"There are several arrest warrants against Matkoseng Na-Ae including the bombing of a fishing boat last year, a bomb blast in front of the Pattani mosque last year and another case in 2006," he told reporters here today.
The authorities, he said, were still in the process of identifying three other individuals believed to be involved in Tuesday's bombing.
Four individuals were allegedly involved and were at the scene in Tuesday's bombing. Two of them were inside a pickup truck filled with explosives and parked in front of the supermarket and later detonated it, while the other two were riding two motorcycles, that were waiting outside.
The two suspects fled on the waiting motorcycles immediately after they parked the explosive-filled truck at the entrance of the supermarket.
Piyawat said authorities were also hunting for the owner of the pickup truck used in the incident known as Nai Nuson Khajondam.
Meanwhile, about 1,000 civil servants, including police and soldiers were marching on the road carrying banners protesting Tuesday's violent incident.
The march, led by Muang district office chief Chaiyaporn Niyomkaew, appealed for an end to all acts of violence involving innocent civilians.
Thailand's Sheikh-ul-Islam office had also issued a statement condemning the bombing two days ago and described the violent acts involving innocent civilians as inhumane.Bernama
