SONGKLA: Thai authorities have detained another Uighur man who escaped from an Immigration detention centre in Sadao, Songkla province last Monday.
Songkla 6th Immigration Police chief Maj Gen Jeksada Yaisun said the 31-year-old suspect was picked up in Kampung Raitok, Sadao about 8am (local time) today, while he was out to buy breakfast.
"He told the authorities that he decided to escape because he missed his wife and two children back in Turkey so much," he told reporters here.
Jeksada said the suspect who could speak several languages fluently, had planned to cross the Malaysia-Thailand border but was stuck in the jungles with four other Uighur escapees.
They hardly ate and only drank rain water while in the jungles, he added.
In the 2am (local time) incident, a group of 20 Uighurs who were waiting for deportation bored a hole in the wall of their detention room and abseiled the secured building by using blankets before fleeing to the nearby jungle at the Malaysia-Thailand border.
Prior to this, Thai authorities had detained two other escapees while Malaysia nabbed one in Bukit Kayu Hitam. — Bernama
